Asking The Lord

6th October 2015

As you may be aware, a part of the Church of England’s current Reform and Renewal initiative is to focus on the vocation of the whole people to God - encouraging all to explore discipleship and service and raising up a variety of lay or ordained minsters. A specific target has been set to increase the number of ordinands by 50% in order to meet the needs of dioceses for incumbents and other clergy in the future.

As we enter this new phase we recognise that it is vital that this work is under-pinned with prayer, and we are therefore turning to the Religious Communities and asking for your help to undertake a serious and sustained prayer for vocations throughout the church.

Attached to this page is a monthly cycle of daily prayer intentions covering every diocese and a variety of ministries. We would be delighted if your community felt able to commit to praying these intentions regularly. This is the first stage in a determined effort to encourage the church to pray for vocations at national, diocesan, parish and individual level.

Please do feel free to customise and develop these prayers to suit your local context. If your community is able to commit to this prayer project please can you email me on catherine.williams@churchofengland.org so that we can keep a list of those who are praying: thereby drawing encouragement for this essential part of the Church’s work.

Yours in Christ, Catherine Williams
